Prostitution in Victorian Colchester: Controlling the Uncontrollable

Authors: Jane Pearson and Maria Rayner

Having compiled a database of nearly 350 of Colchester’s nineteenth-century prostitutes, the authors examine how they lived and operated and who their customers were.
